Development of PC oriented Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as the basic instrument for processing of geological and geophysical data is the major activity of this CGDS group. One of the current application of this technology concerns global seismic hazard data processing. Other applications include processing of rapid epicentres determination data to provide decision support to Russian EMERMIN.

The group applies GIS techniques for seismic hazard data processing on the territory of Former Soviet Union, Europe and Mediterranean, Northern Africa. Application of GIS technology to the electromagnetic field observation data is another domain of GIS group which is developed in collaboration with Laboratoire de Geomagnetisme of IPGP.
