The Institute of Cybernetics of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences was established in 1966. At present the Institute is one of the greatest research centers of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic. There are 13 laboratories and 11 research groups at the Institute, where 115 scientific staffs work, including 6 akademicians, 6 doctors of science and 25 Ph.D holders.

The main activity of the Institute is on the solving of the fundamental problems of the mathematical modeling and optimization of complex processes and systems, artificial intelligence, computer science, information security.

The applied investigations of the Institute produced the original software for information security, scientific research , engineering calculations, and decision-making problems solution.

Development of the Cybernetics at the Institute was determined according to results of the investigations of the scientific schools which were formed at the following actual directions of Cybernetics and Informatics. There are several scientific schools: Algorithmical Cybernetics (academician V.K.Kabulov; the mathematical modeling and the running simulation ( academician F.B.Abutaliev); the artificial intelligence ( academician M.M.Kamilov); analytical- numerical methods (academician B. A. Bondarenko ); the information systems and networks( academician T.F.Bekmuratov); the computer methods the mechanics of solid medium ( academician T.Buriev).

Last decade some new directions are arisen in Institute of Cybernetics:

• information security;
• data mining;
• knowledge management;
• artificial intelligence in medicine;
• telemedicine;
• control systems of oil-gas production and transportation;
• fuzzy nets, fuzzy logic;
• e-documentation and cooperative work support systems;
• geographical information systems;
• facilities (Experimental Set-Up and Methods);
• multicriterial optimization methods.

There are the post graduate and post doctoral fellowship (aspirantura and doctorantura) at the Institute to prepare the specialists with high level scientific degrees.

The Institute has been collaborated with local organizations of industry and social sector of economics, where produced software are implemented.

International Cooperation of the Institute are presented by the some research grants funding by NATO (1996,1997,2001), European Commission(1999, 2002-2004) , Soros Foundation (1999).

Within CIS the Institute has been cooperated with Russian Academy of Sciences(Moscow, Novosibirsk, Sankt-Peterburg),Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (Kiev,Kharkov), Belorussian Academy of Science (Minsk), with scientific communities of Central Asia, Kazakhstan, etc.
